The Prince Edward Island has one toll bridge: The Confederation Bridge[1], also known as “Fixed Link”. This toll bridge spans the Abegweit Passage of Northumberland Strait. The curved 12.9 kilometres (8 miles) long bridge links Prince Edward Island with mainland New Brunswick.

Toll rates for Confederation Bridge

Tolls on the Confederation Bridge are charged based on a vehicle’s axle count and are calculated for the round-trip, regardless of the user’s initial point of entry to Prince Edward Island. Bridge tolls are collected when travelling westbound, leaving Prince Edward Island at the toll plaza in Borden-Carleton, PE. Cash, Interac, and all major credit cards are accepted. Confederation Bridge tolls are tax-exempt.

The toll rates, as of January 2022, are $50.25 for a two-axle automobile and $8.50 for each additional axle. Motorcycles are charged $20.00. While pedestrians and cyclists are not permitted to cross the bridge, but a shuttle service is available. Since January 1, 2022, the shuttle service charges are $4.75 per pedestrian or $9.50 per cyclist when leaving Prince Edward Island.

Confederation Bridge tolling agencies and contacts

The Confederation Bridge is operated by Strait Crossing Bridge Limited (SCBL)[4], a subsidiary of the Strait Crossing Development Inc. consortium which built the structure. SCBL will privately manage, maintain, and operate the bridge until 2032 when these operations will transfer to the Government of Canada.
