Toll payment methods in Virginia

You can pay tolls in Virginia via E-ZPass VA, a regular E-ZPass or using a NationalPass[1]. These passes also work for nearby states: see the map of states that accept E-ZPass[2].

Some toll facilities also accept cash payment for Virginia toll roads, bridges and tunnels. Video tolling or Pay by plate also works for some toll facilities.

If you already have a E-ZPass (from any other state) you are good to go on toll roads in Virginia. If not, you have two options:

  • Apply for E-ZPass VA in advance: You can order E-ZPass online and get it in mail prior to your trip. Here is more information on E-ZPass application[3].
  • Pick E-ZPass On-the-Go from a retailer location in Virginia when you reach there: E-ZPass On-the-Go is pretty much same as E-ZPass. Just that it is more suitable for visitors who are visiting north-east states for few days and do not plan to use E-ZPass for long-term. You can pick your E-ZPass transponder at a local participating retailer and start using it right away. Your kit will include an E-ZPass transponder, mounting strips, installation instructions and a $15 prepaid toll balance to use as soon as you want. To continue using your E-ZPass, simply register before or after the first use by going online or calling 877-762-7824. Here is more information on E-ZPass On-the-Go including retailer locations: E-ZPass On-the-Go[4]

If you need more information on E-ZPass VA or E-ZPass On-the-Go, please reach out to E-ZPass VA Customer Service[5]. You can call them at 877-762-7824 [1].
