Virginia toll roads

The following five stretches make up all the toll roads that lie within the state of Virginia:

Dulles Toll Road

Dulles Toll Road^[1], in combination with Dulles Greenway^[2] and Dulles Access Road, provide access to the Washington Dulles International Airport. The 8-lane Dulles Toll Road^[3] runs “outside” the Dulles Access Road. Dulles Toll Road^[4] and Dulles Access Road are maintained by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA). The Dulles Greenway^[5] is maintained by Macquarie Atlas Roads. 2-axle vehicles pay $3.25 toll at all the mainline toll plazas and $1.50 at all of the On/Off ramps along the Dulles toll road.

Powhite Parkway

Powhite Parkway^[6], also SR 76, connects SR 288 in Chesterfield County with I-195 and SR 195 west of Downtown Richmond. The highway includes a pair of mainline barrier toll plazas and ramp toll plazas at most interchanges, all of which accept E-ZPass. Powhite Parkway Extension^[7] begins at Jahnke Rd and is an extension of I-195 Powhite Parkway that takes you from Richmond into central Chesterfield County. 2-axle vehicles pay 75 cents toll on the mainline toll barrier, 25 cents on the mainline plaza – east & west ramp, 25 cents on Route 60 ramp and 50 cents on the Courthouse Road ramp.

Route 168 Chesapeake Expressway

Route 168 Chesapeake Expressway^[8] runs from North Carolina NC-168 through the Chesapeake and Norfolk to end near the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. It links I-64 in Chesapeake to North Carolina and the Outer Banks. On regular days, 2-axle vehicles pay $3 toll if paying with cash or E-ZPass. However, 2-axle vehicles pay $8 toll if paying with cash or E-ZPass during peak weekends (The period beginning 12:01 a.m. on Saturday through 12:00 midnight Sunday beginning the weekend before Memorial Day weekend to the weekend after Labor Day weekend). Chesapeake Expressway Discount Member Rate for 2-axle vehicles is 75 cents irrespective of regular days or peak weekends.

Downtown Expressway

Downtown Expressway^[9], SR 195, connects the West End of Richmond with Downtown Richmond. Downtown Expressway has a mainline barrier toll plaza and ramp toll plazas at its interchanges with US-1 and US-301 and with US-60. 2-axle vehicles pay 70 cents toll on the mainline toll barrier, 35 cents on the 2nd Street ramps, and 30 cents on the 11th Street ramps.

Pocahontas Parkway

Pocahontas Parkway^[10], also known as SR 895 or Pocahontas 895, connects the junction of I-95 and SR-150 in Chesterfield County with I-295 near Richmond International Airport. It contains the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge over James River, the only crossing on the river for six miles in either direction. 2-axle vehicles pay $4.50 toll at the mainline toll plaza and $2.60 toll at Laburnum Ave and Airport Drive ramps.

Following are the toll bridges in Virginia:

The George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge

The George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge^[11] spans the York River between Yorktown and Gloucester Point. The bridge is the only public crossing of the York River, though SR-33 crosses both of its tributaries (the Mattaponi and Pamunkey Rivers).

Boulevard Bridge

Boulevard Bridge^[12] spans James River carrying SR-161. 2-axle vehicles pay 35 cents tolls and 3-axle vehicles pay 70 cents. 3+ axles are not allowed on the bridge. The vehicle weight limit is 7,500 lbs.

The Jordan Bridge

The Jordan Bridge^[13], also the South Norfolk Jordan Bridge, carries SR-337 over the Southern Branch Elizabeth River from Portsmouth into Chesapeake in South Hampton Roads. 2-axle vehicles pay $2.45 toll in both peak and off-peak times if paying with E-ZPass. For Pay by plate, 2-axle vehicles pay $2.80 extra then E-ZPass rate (total of $5.25) in both peak and off-peak times.

Following are the toll tunnels in Virginia:

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT)

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT)^[14] connects Northampton County on the Delmarva Peninsula with Virginia Beach. The facility carries US-13 and provides the only direct link between Virginia’s Eastern Shore and south Hampton Roads. Toll rates vary depending on peak/off-peak season, one-way/return trip, number of axles and mode of payment (E-ZPass or cash/credit cards). For a one-way trip, 2-axle vehicles pay $18 during peak season and $14 during off-peak season. Peak Season Pricing is Friday thru Sunday from May 15 thru September 15. The Downtown Tunnel

The Downtown Tunnel^[16], one of the two Elizabeth tunnels, crosses the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River in the South Hampton Roads area. It links Portsmouth with Norfolk. In conjunction with the Berkley Bridge, the Downtown Tunnel connects to I-464 to the City of Chesapeake and a continuation I-264 to the downtown and Waterside areas of Norfolk, and on to Virginia Beach. Toll rates vary depending on weekdays/weekends, time of the day, the number of axles and mode of payment (E-ZPass, Toll by Plate (registered) and Toll by Plate (unregistered)). The Midtown Tunnel

The Midtown Tunnel^[18], one of the two Elizabeth River tunnels, links the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth. It carries US-58. Toll rates vary depending on weekdays/weekends, time of the day, the number of axles and mode of payment (E-ZPass, Toll by Plate (registered) and Toll by Plate (unregistered)).
