What is E-ZPass NJ

E-ZPass NJ or Ne Jersey E-ZPass[1] is a transponder (tag) that you can use to pay tolls on the go in on most of the New Jersey toll facilities. Just mount the device on your vehicle and every time you cross an electronic toll gantry, relevant tolls will be deducted from your account. As it is part of the E-ZPass network, it is also accepted across all the states where an E-ZPass is valid.

E-ZPass NJ toll rate discount

Compared to other toll tags in New Jersey, you can save more money using the E-ZPass NJ on NJ toll roads, bridges and tunnels with the discount plans on top of the standard discount. The discount comes with the time of the day and number of trips requirements.

Below are the tag-specific E-ZPass NJ enrollment discount plans available on New Jersey Turnpike Authority:

Senior Citizens Discount Plan

The pass is available to people above 65 years of age. The discount is available for passenger vehicles and not valid during peak hours (7am – 9am and 4:30pm – 6:30pm).

Green Pass Discount Plan

The discount plan offers a discount from the full fare off-peak toll on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. The E-ZPass discount plan is only available for vehicles meeting California Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) and obtaining at least 45 miles per gallon.

Trailer Discount Plan

The trailer E-ZPass discount plan is only valid on the Garden State Parkway on the full fare off-peak for private accounts. Discount is only applicable to class 2 – class 5 vehicle class meeting the requirement of class 1 tag with additional axles and RV’s.

How do I get an E-ZPass NJ

You can get an E-ZPass NJ or New Jersey E-ZPass by any of the following methods:

1. Online: Fill up an application form[2] on E-ZPass NJ website

2. Mail: Send application for Personal[3] or Business[4] account at:

You can also buy an E-ZPass at Walmart in New Jersey. It costs $3 extra as a one-time convenience charge.

How much does EZ Pass cost in NJ

The E-ZPass cost in NJ depends on the type of account[6] and plan[7].

For a Standard Plan of Personal account, there are no enrollment charges. A minimum balance of $25 is required to open an account.

An annual fee of $18 is charged: $1 monthly service fee and another $1 for bi-monthly statements. New customers must make a refundable $10 deposit per tag if their replenishment method is cash or check.

What happens if you go through EZ Pass without it in NJ

If you go through E-ZPass without it in NJ, a Toll Bill will be mailed to the vehicle owner. The toll amount will have no discount and if not paid within the specified time will accumulate a penalty.

You can pay the Toll Bill either online[8] or by sending a money order with the payment coupon portion of the notice to: NJ E-ZPass, P.O. Box 4971, Trenton, NJ 08650.

How do I cancel my EZ Pass NJ

To cancel your E-ZPass NJ account, you have to mail your tag(s) to their customer service centre with a signed statement mentioning that you’d like to close the account.

On receiving the tag, adjust the unused balance and tag deposit against any outstanding toll due and issue a refund.

Note: If the tag is not in good condition, they may deduct the tag deposit.

How do I pay for my E-ZPass NJ

You can pay or recharge your N E-ZPass tag with the following two methods:

Online

Online payment for NJ E-ZPass can be done via credit card, debit card or savings account. The credit card is automatically billed for payments whenever the balance in the E-ZPass falls below 25% of the required replenishment amount.

By Check or Cash

Payment by Check or Cash for E-ZPass are made to the New Jersey E-ZPass by mail. A low balance message is shown whenever the account balance falls below 50% of the required replenishment amount.
